TMJ & Craniofacial Pain Relief

The temporomandibular joints (TMJ) are the most complex joints in the human body, connecting the lower jaw (mandible) to the skull and enabling movements like talking, chewing, and yawning; because they are used constantly, they can become imbalanced, leading to craniofacial pain. When the joints, nerves, or the articular disc are irritated or displaced, patients may suffer from a Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMD), which manifests as nagging symptoms including migraines, jaw pain, clicking/popping joints, difficulty chewing, teeth grinding (bruxism), and painful ears. During the initial exam, our doctor conducts a thorough assessment of the head, neck, and jaw, often using 3D imaging (CBCT) to personalize the diagnosis and treatment plan, which may include non-surgical options such as an oral Deprogrammer splint, Botox or Xeomin injections, Equilibration (adjusting the bite), Myofunctional Therapy, or Dry/Wet Needling.

Sleep Apnea & Snoring Solutions

Sleep apnea is a common sleep disorder that affects millions of people worldwide. It is characterized by interruptions in breathing during sleep, leading to decreased oxygen levels in the body. One of the most common symptoms of sleep apnea is snoring. Fortunately, there are treatment options available for both sleep apnea and snoring.

Sleep apnea is a sleep disorder that causes people to stop breathing for brief periods during sleep. It is often accompanied by loud snoring, choking, or gasping sounds. Sleep apnea can cause a range of health issues, including high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, and diabetes.

Snoring, on the other hand, is a vibration of the tissues in the throat that occurs during sleep. It is often a sign of sleep apnea, but it can also be caused by other factors, such as allergies, congestion, or obesity.

Treatment for Sleep Apnea and Snoring

Obstructive sleep apnea, or OSA, is the most common type of sleep apnea. Treatment for both OSA and snoring may be accomplished with these therapies:

CPAP

The continuous positive airway pressure machine, or CPAP, features a central unit that forces air through a tube. The tube connects to the patient by way of a facemask. CPAPs force air into the airway to keep soft tissues from interfering with breathing. Our philosophy is that only you and your sleep medicine team should choose whether you want to use a PAP or not. If you cannot use one, or if you need some more help along with your PAP,  that’s when we step in.

Mandibular Repositioning Oral Appliance

Custom made and well designed oral appliances worn while sleeping hold the lower jaw in a forward position to keep the airway open. Furthermore, they can help stabilize the TMJ and reduce or even eliminate nocturnal grinding.

Myofunctional therapy

Myofunctional therapy is physical therapy but for the mouth, head, and neck – myofunctional therapy helps strengthen muscles and fascia to help with better function and breathing.
